Little children
notice peoples faces.
They notice the nice things.
They notice the flaws
They never hesitate to mention
those nice things - those flaws.
Caden notices
a red mark underneath my smile,
“What’s that?”, he asks
“What?“, I say
“That”, he says, “that red“.
“Oh, that just came” say I
not wanting to explain
a pimple picked
a pimple squeezed,
“Are you growing a mustache”
again, again and again
and we laugh and laugh again
and again-he doesn’t know
things need to go unnoticed
left alone for a time alone
mirrored in a bathroom glass
